If your motto is "don't mess with a good thing," then you probably don't want to turn our brownie mix into cream cheese brownies.

But if you like to tinker, create, experiment, and explore in the kitchen, then this is a recipe you should try. Right now. Because if you put off baking this recipe then you will wonder what took you so long?

History of cream cheese brownies

Cream cheese brownies are a classic American dessert that date back to the 1960s when cheesecake was king. In those days, 3 ounce packages of cream cheese were easier to find — but not anymore!

Baker’s German chocolate baking bar promoted a cream cheese brownie recipe in newspapers and magazines for the next ten years.

Nowadays the idea of incorporating cheesecake into brownie batter seems downright decadent, delicious, over-the-top. It is. So save this recipe for those occasions that demand this sort of brownie. We all have them. And this recipe is a lot easier to pull together when you begin with a great brownie mix.

How to make cream cheese brownies

Open the package and dump the mix into a bowl and stir in a stick of melted butter and two eggs. It's that easy. Pour the brownie batter into the pan and make a quick cream cheese "goo" following the recipe. Swirl in the goo, bake, and what you get is a cross between brownie and cheesecake, which is always better than a good thing!
