Host a DIY Grits Bar

Need a party food idea that has both kid favorites and adult-friendly fixings?  Set up a Grits Bar, complete with our Creamy Stone-Ground Grits and toppings to layer on.   The grits and toppings can be made ahead; all you have to do is warm them and arrange the grits and toppings on the table.   You’ll be pleased with the low cost, too.

You can theme the party, too.  If you decide on a Tex-Mex theme, serve a taco-seasoned ground beef mixture and a chicken variety, too.  Serve the Creamy Stone-Ground Grits and taco filling with bowls of heated pinto beans, diced roasted zucchini and red peppers, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, diced tomato, and grated Cheddar cheese.

For a chili party, serve the Creamy Stone-Ground Grits with several kinds of chili made from with Old Mill Chili Starter Seasoning Mix.  Add some traditional and unexpected toppings to pile on: sour cream, grated cheese, diced avocado, thinly sliced romaine, slivers of red onion, sliced jalapeño, sliced olives, cilantro leaves.

You can serve anything on grits that you’d think of serving on rice.  For instance, Chicken Curry is delicious on the grits;  add traditional toppings such as finely diced apple, red bell pepper, and pineapple; crumbled bacon, raisins, peanuts, and toasted coconut.

For a farm-to-table party, serve sautéed sliced collard greens (see the recipe…..), sautéed shaved Brussels sprouts and caramelized onions, diced roasted red peppers, cooked bacon pieces and diced ham,
